Blue’s Antony Costa is taking a break from the band next Christmas to make a welcome return to Dunstable’s Grove Theatre as the star of its pantomime Cinderella.
Costa will be making a dream come true for one fairytale princess as he plays Prince Charming. Conversations about pantomimes are a hot topic with his bandmates as most of them are appearing in various pantos across the country this Christmas.
Said Antony: “I was talking to the guys about it the other day; three of us are going off to do panto this Christmas. I love being with the boys but I also like putting my heart and soul into something else from time to time. I love performing.”
The singer said he was excited to be returning to his performing roots. His earliest roles as an actor included playing a pupil on Steven Moffatt’s Chalk and a part in BBC’s Grange Hill.
Away from the band, he has starred in the musical Blood Brothers which he brought to The Grove Theatre in 2007, and in musical Boogie Nights.
Antony is an experienced pantomime performer, having headlined in pantos across the country, including Portsmouth, Cardiff and Ipswich.
What kind of Prince Charming does Costa want to be? He answered: “Well, I’m not exactly the Pride and Prejudice type! I know Prince Charming is traditionally suave, but I want him to be cheeky – that’s just me. I want him to be someone who is quite relatable.”
Costa will be joined by YouTube sensation, comedian and CBBC presenter, Mawaan Rizwan who will be playing Buttons
Said Rizwan: “Be prepared! Come to the show and lose yourself in the stupidity. It’s going to be loads of fun.”
Cinderella runs December 11-January 3.
