So what if Shakespeare’s Hamlet doesn’t end in a bloodbath or Ophelia doesn’t kill herself?
Actors Touring Company, co-creators of last year’s award-winning Fringe runaway hit, The Events, returns to Edinburgh Fringe this August with the world premiere of Blind Hamlet by Nassim Soleimanpour.
Directed by ATC’s artistic director Ramin Gray, this is a brand new commission from Soleimanpour, Iran’s leading playwright and writer of worldwide hit White Rabbit Red Rabbit.
Blind Hamlet transforms Shakespeare’s tragedy into an interactive theatrical battle and re-imagines the bloody struggle for Hamlet’s Elisinore.
Here, anything is possible. The plots and machinations of Shakespeare’s drama are played out by the audiences themselves, each night creating their own version of the most famous play in the English language.
What happens if Polonius doesn’t die? Could Rosencrantz and Guildenstern succeed in their mission? What if Hamlet kills Claudius? Would that actually bring him peace?
An innovative piece of game-theatre, Blind Hamlet will give audiences a chance to shape the course of each performance.
Blind Hamlet will play at the Assembly Roxy from July 30 to August 25.
