Northern Broadsides gets hitched to York Theatre Royal for When We Are Married tour

When we are married

Northern Broadsides is again teaming up with Theatre Royal York for an autumn tour of JB Priestley’s comedy, When We Are Married.

Set in the heart of Northern England, in Cleckleywyke, a town in the West Riding. Three respectable couples, the Helliwells, the Parkers and the Soppitts are highly respected pillars of their community … but not for much longer.

Married on the same day, at the same church, and by the same vicar, they join together to celebrate 25 years of blissful matrimony. Or so they think…

The happy celebrations are brought to a sudden halt by a shocking revelation that these pillars of the community aren’t quite as respectably married as they thought they were. The vicar wasn’t licensed and they are not actually married. In fact, they have been living in sin for 25 years.
