Almeida Greek season ready to open with bloody family saga, Oresteia

Lia Williams in ORESTEIA

The Almeida Theatre’s Greek Season gets under way with Robert Icke’s adaptation of Aeschylus’ Oresteia

A huge, moving, bloody family drama spanning several decades, Aeschylus’ greatest and final play asks whether justice can ever be done – and it continues to resonate more than two millennia after it was written.

Joining Lia Williams in this epic, re-imagined for the modern stage by Almeida associate director Robert Icke, is a cast including Amelia Baldock, Lorna Brown, Jessica Brown Findlay, Rudi Dharmalingam, Ann Firbank, Ilan Galkoff, Joshua Higgott, Cameron Lane, John Mackay, Clara Read, Eve Salama, Bobby Smalldridge, Luke Thompson, Angus Wright and Hara Yannas.

Robert Icke most recently directed the The Fever and Mr Burns. Other Almeida credits include 1984, a co-production with Headlong and Nottingham Playhouse and co-created with Duncan Macmillan, which enjoyed a successful West End run and two UK tours.

Oresteia runs from May 29-July 18.
