World famous soprano Lesley Garrett is set to leave audiences spellbound when she joins Welsh National Opera’s annual tour of the provinces this spring.
She will be performing in a new production called Chorus! which, as it says on the tin, celebrates one of WNO’s greatest assets – the Chorus.
There will also be revivals of Hansel & Gretel and a slightly surreal production of The Magic Flute.
Chorus! will be conducted by WNO chorus master, Alexander Martin.
It is a witty and spectacular journey through the rich repertoire of choral music and a chance to enjoy some of opera’s best-loved moments including classics such as the Humming Chorus from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Va Pensiero from Verdi’s Nabucco and two fun pieces from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance.
WNO revives Mozart’s much-loved The Magic Flute in a Magritte-inspired production which features an angry lobster, a newspaper-reading lion and a fish that is transformed into a bicycle.
The Magic Flute will feature a double cast with Allan Clayton and Benjamin Hulett sharing the role of Tamino and Sophie Bevan and Anita Watson sharing the role of Pamina.
WNO music director Lothar Koenigs will conduct both Hansel & Gretel and The Magic Flute.
