Matthew Kelly heads the haunting Desire Under The Elms at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre

Robert Hastie kicks off his first season as artistic director of Sheffield Theatres with Eugene O’Neill’s, Desire Under the Elms, directed by Sam Yates and starring Olivier Award-winner, Matthew Kelly.

He is joined by Claudia Cadette, Colin Haigh and Tim Dewberry.

The company will also include Me’sha Bryan, Emma Darlow, Aoife Duffin, Theo Ogundipe, Sule Rimi and Michael Shea.

Ephraim Cabot’s sons work from morning till night, believing his farm will one day be theirs. But everything changes when the old man returns from town with a new wife.

This haunting and erotic tragedy is one of the great American plays from Nobel Prize-winning playwright Eugene O’Neill.

Matthew Kelly returns to Sheffield Theatres to play Ephraim. His previous work for the company includes The History Boys.

Desire Under the Elms opens September 25 with previews from September 20 and will run until October 14.
