Traditional dance gets a modern twist at the Stephen Joseph Theatre

Last seen at the Stephen Joseph Theatre with Kathakbox, the Sonia Sabri Company returns to Scarborough with a new, high energy dance production.

Jugni is an explosion of dance, music and meaning with soaring live vocals and percussion.

It is inspired by Qawwali, a form of Asian devotional music, and is coupled with powerful contemporary choreography driven by the passion and high energy of traditional dance styles.

Jugni is also a female firefly and symbolically both the innocent outsider and the spirit of life.

Celebrated for presenting contemporary Kathak in bold new ways, the company illuminates the stories of real women through movement, rhythm and rhyme.

Choreographer Sonia Sabri, musical director Sarvar Sabri and a company of international artists celebrate and inspire.

Jugni can be seen at the SJT on October 27.
